6 Months!!!

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009 by Mom

Hi, my name is Cole and this is my blog.  My mom asked me to step in and write this issue because she’s just so tired these days from my frequent night wakings.  No, I’m not sleeping through the night yet.  What can I say?  I’m a growing boy and I need my milk.  Anyhow, I recently turned 6 months on January 19th.  I know what you’re thinking.  Six months?!  Where has the time gone?

Not only do I get delicious milk for food, I also get solids too!  My mom has slowly introduced me to rice cereal, oatmeal cereal, and some beginners fruits and vegetables.  So far, I love them all.  I even like my peas!

Now that I’m six months, I’ve also decided that it was time to turn over from my stomach to my back.  After much coaxing from my mom and dad, I finally did it.  I was in my crib at the time trying to tell mom I didn’t need a nap and then, WHOOSH, I flipped over.  I was stuck there too so luckily my mom was there to rescue me and flip me back over.  So I started to sit up on my own at 5 months and turned over at 6 months.  A little backwards but that’s how I do things.

Some of my favorite things to do is spending time with my family.  Everyone is still so new to me so I need as  much cuddle time with them as possible.  I recently visited Grandma Minnie over the holidays.  She’s a pretty cool grandma.  However, I’m still trying to figure out how we’re related.  I don’t look like I’m a quarter filipino.

This is me and my new buddy Ethan.  What?  Didn’t I mention paper was also part of my diet.

My big sister Gracie invited me to my very first tea party.  I’m pretty sure it’s my last because Yaya and Gracie did nothing but gossip all day.

But the tea was spectacular!

I’ve also got a big facination with balloons.  I played with one at my great-grandmother Esther’s house while celebrating her 90th birthday.

While celebrating another birthday, my friend Ava’s 2nd one, I also discovered why adults are always so happy.  Can you say margarita?  Jack’s famous margarita to be exact.  Jack is Ava’s grandpa, or Dida in Croatian.  I think Ceci is enjoying hers.

These days I’m sporting a helmet.  My dad says he’s training me early on how to be an awesome skateboarder like Tony Hawk.  I wear it everywhere I go.  To sleep.  To daycare too.  Oh yeah, I love daycare.  I especially love sitting up and playing with all the cool toys.

Well folks, I’ve gotta run.  I’ve got more eatin’ to do.  Did I mention I was a professional eater?

Cole’s Helmet

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 by Mom

By now most of our family and friends already know that Cole needed a helmet to fix the shape of his head.  To recap, at his 2 month checkup the doctor suggested we pay special attention to the shape of his head as it was looking a little flat on the back.  We had to apply aggressive tummy time and keep him off his back when possible.  We went back to the doctors at 3 months to see if there was any improvements in the shape.  Unfortunately there was no improvement.

The doctors referred us to an orthodics and prosthetics specialist in Santa Barbara.  There Cole was given a full exam which included digital photos of his head, general measurements, and a full 3D scan of his head with a special scanner.  The whole process wasn’t as intrusive as I thought it would be.  Cole was a super trooper too.   Cole was diagnosed with positional plagiocephaly or flat head syndrome.  This occurs when a baby sleeps in the same position repeatedly.  Cole was a good sleeper from the beginning and I guess he loved to look straight up and a little to the side.   The orthotist later told us to return at 5 months to see if there was any change because 3 months was too young to fit for a helmet.  Still no change.

On New Year’s Eve we finally picked up Cole’s new helmet that he will be wearing for the next 4 1/2 months at 23 hours per day.  I ordered a cool camoflauge style so that he can be incognito while wearing it.  The helmet is actually very light weight.  Cole is already used to it after about a week of sweating.  Here’s his first photo of it on with Daddy.  He’s not looking so happy.

We like to say that the helmet looks like its from the movie Tron.  Cole is definitely cuter than this dude.

At night we get to take it off and give him a bath.  And boy does he need it.  I think the worst part of this helmet ordeal is the smell.  Yuck.  And we’re only 3 weeks into it.  I can’t imagine what 4 months will be like.

The best part so far is that I already see a huge difference in his head.  Even with a helmet on, Cole always has a smile for us.

Cole’s First Christmas

Friday, January 2nd, 2009 by Mom

This year was Cole’s first Christmas.  As with many families December was loaded with activities and family fun.  Cole also turned 5 months in December.

He still has not rolled over but he loves sitting up.  I snapped this picture while picking up Cole from daycare.

He loves looking at himself in the mirror.

I also started to feed Cole rice and oatmeal cereal in December.  He was showing so many signs of being ready for solids including trying to grab everything I was eating out of my hand. As usual, Grace is such a great big sister and wanted to help feed Cole his cereal.

Cole is also a great helper.  Here is assisting Mommy with her work by taking notes and checking my email for me.

I also tried on Cole’s first pair of shoes given to him by our friend Mike W.  They are extra cute as they have guitars on them.

The holidays brought Cole lots of new experiences.  However, most of the Christmas stuff will be posted in sister Grace’s blog.  In short, Cole gave Mommy & Daddy a mug with his smile on it for Christmas.  His caretakers at daycare were kind enough to assist him with that project.

Cole also really enjoyed playing with tinsel.

Exploring around Yaya’s house that was decorated with Christmas decor was another favorite for Cole.  Here uncle Tim gave Cole a boost to check out a snowflake.

However, Cole didn’t really like it when Mommy pretended that he was groceries from Trader Joes.  Sorry Cole.

Hey, check out Cole’s sister’s blog for all of their Christmas fun.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
